Chelsea Handler Proves That Success Doesn’t Come Easy


Hollywood is awash with many celebrities who are stalked by fame and fortune wherever they go. Not all of it came easy though. A number of popular artists confirm the road to success was and has never been easy. Of course to some, it was a bed of roses and they only had to put in a little effort to make things work. Others on the other hand, had to struggle to make even a little progress. Chelsea Handler falls in that rare category of superstars who grew up in splendor.


The youngest of six of Ritas children, Chelsea was born in 1971 in New Jersey. Her father, Seymour Handler, was a used car dealer, and mother, homemaker. While the father was a Jewish American, her mother was German. She was well taken care of and lived in rich neighborhoods. In one interview, she said their neighbors had very cool cars like Mercedes and Jaguars, while they went to school using a Pinto.

Handler shot to fame when she featured in the television series, Girls Behaving Badly which ran from 2002- 2005. Other programs she featured in included My Wife and Kids, Weekends at the D.L., The Practice and The Bernie Mac Show. Handler was also known for being a regular commentator on E! She was also a correspondent for The Tonight Show. The first episode of the TV series On The Lot was hosted by her. She quickly quit before the second one was aired, citing disaster.

This show was produced by Mark Burnet and Steven Spielberg. When she left, she was replaced by Adrianna Costa, an entertainment anchor.
Chelsea began hosting the Chelsea Handler Show in 2007 on E! This one lasted only two seasons before she moved over to perform with Comedy Central. Later on, she began starring on a late night comedy featuring her for half an hour. It was referred to as Chelsea Lately. It was a great hit and viewers were more than half a million. The episode of Chelsea Lately was aired in a number of countries including Australia, New Zealand, Germany and US. The final episode was aired in 2014.

It is interesting to note that Handler is also an author. She has written five books which have been on the New York Times Best Seller List. Out of the five, four were number one. The titles of these books include My Horizontal Life; A Collection of One Night stands, Are You There Vodka, It’s Me Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. Handler has got her own column in Cosmopolitan as well as Now magazine in the UK. In 2009, she hosted the 20th annual GLAAD Media Awards that took place in San Francisco US. She has appeared on the front page of Playboy and Marie Claire. She has not settled down with someone yet, though has dated the likes of Ted Harbert and 50 Cent. While at it, she is in the list of famous stars in Hollywood. She fights for gay rights and is known to be rather vocal about her personal life.
